Recession is coming throughout all sectors. I feel that the situation has changed drastically in just one year.

The purpose of business is to make profits with low costs. The abnormal era in which the businesses making a large debt with a large deficit is highly valued is over. The abnormal situation has just now been finally normalized. If you have taken on excessive debt and made useless bluffs, you must pay the price now. We have to be small and strong.

I am complementing myself for having a meaningful day, being immersed and focused on the most valuable issues of my work and being productive in the circumstances I am in. I am grateful that I can focus all my abilities on things that are meaningful to the world.

Today, I had to write a report and I summarized annual performance of my company. I was quite surprised that most of the goals set at the beginning of the year were achieved despite the fact that we are in the period of painful times for startups. Although the company is small yet, it has grown by 500% in sales compared to the previous year and cleared 510k of the US FDA medical device and successfully registered two patents. Although my company does not follow the typical storylines of startup company, it is solid and strong.

The company is neither flashy nor fancy, but is just completing a quiet daily tasks every day. We are constantly responding to various requests from users that come in every day. Sometime, we meet harsh complains from the users, but thanks to that, we are making important updates. So I am thankful for that. When I recover some energy, I develop new features I’ve wanted to add in my mind to WEBCEPH one by one. Sometimes I am surprised that these small improvements have accumulated and become such a wonderful masterpiece. The flywheel effect has grown, and now it has developed into a fairly large project.

I just focus on the things that I can do today. I have a control over my business and can make my own decisions.

분위기가 바뀌었다. 사회 전반에 침체가 오고 있다. 불과 1년 사이에 상황이 급반전 되었음을 느낀다.

사업은 적은 비용으로 많은 수익을 창출하는 것이 본질이다. 큰 투자를 받고 큰 빚을 내고 큰 적자를 보는 것이 높은 가치 평가를 받는 비정상의 시대는 끝났다. 비정상적이었던 상황이 드디어 정상화 되었다. 무리한 빚을 내고 쓸데없는 허세를 부렸다면 이제 대가를 치러야 한다. 우리는 작고 강해져야 한다.

오늘 생산적인 일에 몰입하고 의미 있는 하루를 보냈음에 감사하고 스스로를 칭찬한다. 내가 있는 여건 속에서 할 수 있는 가장 가치 있고 생산적인 일에 몰두하고 집중하였다. 세상에 의미가 있는 일에 나의 모든 능력을 집중할 수 있다는 것에 감사하다.

보고서를 작성할 일이 있어 연간 성과 정리를 하였다. 스타트업에게 고통스러운 시기임에도 연초에 목표했던 것들을 대부분 달성했다는 데 꽤 놀랐다. 회사는 작지만 전년 대비 500% 매출 성장하였고 그렇기에 강력하고 탄탄한 흑자 운영을 하고 있다. 미국 FDA 허가를 받았고 특허는 2건을 등록하였다. 업계 공식에 맞지 않지만 그렇기에 견고하다.

회사는 화려하지도 요란하지도 않으며 그저 조용한 일상을 보내고 있다. 매일 들어오는 이런저런 사용자의 요청에 지속 대응하고 있고, 때로는 컴플레인에 힘든 때가 있지만 그 덕분에 중요한 업데이트를 하고 있기도 하다. 기운이 돌면 마음 속에 하고 싶었던 기능들을 하나씩 추가하고 있다. 이런 것들이 누적되어서 가끔은 이만큼 멋진 작품이 되었다는 사실에 놀라곤 한다. 플라이휠 효과가 커져서 이제는 제법 규모가 있는 프로젝트로 발전했다.

그저 나의 할 일에 집중한다. 모든 상황에서 내가 판단하고 결정할 수 있다.
